1. The Grand Opening of Augusta’s newest high-end restaurant and lounge, Andrews Place, will be Saturday night, December 14th, in the Furys Ferry Station Shopping Center (Suite 200) at the intersection of Furys Ferry and Riverwatch Parkway (set your GPS to 231 Furys Ferry Rd in Augusta 30907). We’ve been waiting for this day for several months and now it is here. Owner Nicky Marks and Manager Rudy Rosado are fine-tuning the dining area and the wait staff to have everything ready for the opening. The interior of what used to be Malibu Jacks has been completely redone with a new wrap-around bar, new window ornaments, more spacious seating on high quality tables underneath 3 beautiful sparkling chandeliers, and a new sound system.
Andrews will be a high-end restaurant equal to the finest Augusta has to offer. Head Chef Keith Thompson has years of experience in some of the finest establishments in this part of the Southeast, including Phillippe Chin’s Bamboo Room at the Partridge Inn in Augusta and Wolfgang Puck’s restaurant in Atlanta. The menu is simple but elegant. The entertainment at Andrews will also be high class and will make dining (and drinking) there an enjoyable nightly experience without being overpowering. Nicky and Rudy are making the final arrangements on the music entertainers for the opening night – I’m hearing that it’s going to be long-time popular Augusta entertainer Marilyn Adcock on her keyboards with hubby Joe on his mellow sax and clarinet. Starting at 7 PM.
2. Summerville Neighborhood: 2 events this month – both tonite!
- The annual Christmas Tree lighting on the Augusta State campus. Activities will take place on the History Walk outside the Maxwell Theater, beginning at 6 PM with caroling by the University choir; the tree lighting will start at 6:30, followed by a visit from Santa, who’s available for a photo op.
- Tonite is also First Thursday on Kings Way from 5 to 8 PM. All shops and restaurants will be open, and they will be serving food, cocktails and plenty of cheer. Browse the stores, meet the sales staff, and enjoy the warm hospitality which has long been a tradition of Summerville businesses. All of the shops offer unique and lovely merchandise, with many items on sale for the special First Thursday event. And, I hear that Bill Karp will be playing his smooth romantic jazz.
